British TV show 'Top Of The Pops' began playing music in the late 1970s but BBC had a strict limit on the number of 'outsourced' videos TOTP could use. A good video would increase a song's sale as viewers hoped to see it again next time.
Music Television Emerges
I learnt that auteur's use different techniques in order to send out a particular message to the audience. In my group and I's music video, we could ideas from different auteurs. An auteur like Michel Gondry likes to tell stories on people's lives as well as making the audience question the perceptions and idea on reality. Therefore, we could do a music video that would surprise our target audience rather than go for what they expect.
My group and I did some research on music video style so we could start thinking about what to do for our music video.

We looked Chris and found out how he makes his music videos and the different effects. We found out that by being unique, we are easily identified and people remember us more. We will use him as an inspiration for our music video to make sure we are different from other music videos and our audience identify from other groups/artists.
Intertextuality helps the audience to take further levels of meaning away from a text, which is why many artists make intertextual references within their music videos.
