Audiences:

One way to describe the audiences is through their income bracket.

 

  • A: Upper upper class (Royalty, PM etc)
  • B: Upper class (MPs, Consultants, Lawyers etc)
  • C1: Upper middle class (Teachers, Solicitors etc)
  • C2: Lower middle class (Plumber, Mechanics, Electricians etc)
  • D: Upper lower class (Unskilled Workers, Cleaners etc)
  • E: Lower class (Unemployed, Homeless, Non-Income)​

We also have to consider the way the audience would react and engage with the text.

 

  • Audience Engagement: This describes how an audience interacts with a media text. Different people react in different ways to the same text
  • Audience Expectations: These are the advance ideas an audience may have about a text, especially for genre pieces. Many producers deliberately destroys the audiences' expectations
  • Audience Foreknowledge: This is the definite information which an audience brings to a media product
  • Audience Indentification: This is the way in which audiences feel themselves connected to a particular media text, in that they feel it directly expresses their attitude or lifestyle
  • Audience Placement: This is the range of strategies media producers use to directly target a particular audience and make them feel that the media text is specially 'for them'

His youth market tribes are street and trendies because the people that are mostly teenagers and young adults (12-30 years old). They are are from lower to middle class people.

The audience were expecting a more grown up Chris Brown and serious songs.

On this album cover, Chris Brown is dressed in a suit, showing us his matured side. In his previous cover, he is in jogging bottoms and long shirts, which is his teenage and childish side when he first came out. 

Audience Research

We created a questionnaire to give to our target audience to find out what they expect from digipaks and adverts. The data we get back will help us fugure out how our digipak and advert should look. 

As we can see above, the majority of out target audience are willing to pay £6-10. Due to this price when designing the digipak we have to take materials into account and the way we make it because if it costs more to make due to the materials we use, then we would have to increase retail price which would then be out of our target audiences chosen price ranges.

The majority of the girls would like a discount on the artist's upcoming concert. On the other hand, most of the boys would like a poster of the artists, including a discount on the artists upcoming concert.

As for colours, they would like to see subtle light colours like baby pinks and whites. These colours are often represented with women rather than males and would go well with our chosen artist of a girl group. They would also like to see darker colours for our digpipak, like black, which are common colours that are used within the RnB genre and we have decided to use the softer colours for the digipak as well as a few darker colours so that we can incorporate what our target audience wants as well as some of the conventions of the RnB genre.

My group and I decided to do an audience research on what they know about the RnB genre and  what catches their eye in order for us to us it in our music video. 

 

From their answers, we found out that most of them associated RnB with Destiny's Child and the Pussycat Dolls. My group and I will use them as case studies, especially as they are girl bands and so are we. 

 

According to our audience research, people enjoy listening to RnB and dance to it. It is also the type of music you listen to when you experience heartbreak or loss. This will be taken into consideration when choosing our song.

 

Our target audience also noticed that every member of the group has a different personality but they make one and are like sisters. They have funky hairstyles and the majority are Black and Mixraced. We will take these into consideration for our group and music video.
