A2 MUSIC VIDEOS - Brown Eyes
As I know what I expect from a music video myself, I just wrote them down and gave examples. This knowledge will help in the making of my music video because i will know exactly what the audience will want and expect to see.
As my group and I decided to make an RnB music video, we did some research on it. We found out the conventions of a music video and as we are going to do a girl group, we also looked at a famous RnB girl group to inspire us. We then analysed their style. By seeing what sort of style and outfit they wear, we will be able to pick out appropriate costumes for our genre.
My group and I did some background research on RnB and identified some famous RnB artists. When we will be building our music video, we will look at different artists to help us achieve the conventions of RnB.
There has been allot of inspiration in the music industry, such as Michael Jackson. We found out the way he influenced many famous RnB and Pop artists such as Chris Brown and the type of costumes they wear. In our music video, we could use motifs of other famous artists which is what we found some artists do if they really admire an artists like Michael Jackson.
From this music video and analysis, I found out that the audience relates With the lyrics and the camera shots. My group and I can portray a certain emotion using a certain camera shot and the use of props is good, as the audience identify it and relates it to the scene/ situation/ person.
My group and I did some research on this video and found out that in most RnB music videos, including this one, there are always main characters that the audience can relate with and follow their story. We also found that they use a variety of locations and styles.
This music video is both performance and narrative. We can see this through the close ups of Michael Jackson, dance sequences and the boy meets girl story line.
From this video analysis we as a group can get a rough idea of the different camera shots we would need to do if we were including a dance sequence.
MEN: Rnb male artist mainly intend to have a minimum amount of clothes on, an example of this is Trey Songz and Usher, this is mainly due to the fact that their target audience are young girls. Male rnb artists also mainly have tattoos on their arms or chest or any other place that can be easily noticeable by their target audience. The content of their tattoos also represents the artist personality; an example of this is Trey Songz.
Unlike hip-hop artist who intend to mainly wear huge bundles of jewelleries such as chains, rnb male singers are mainly none for little or no jewellery such as earrings and watches
WOMEN; Female RnB artist usually have very little clothing on, e.g. always showing their stomachs and legs, this because of their male target audience as it attracts their attention easily to the artist. An example of this is Alicia Keys. Hair and make-up is an important thing for female RnB artist. Female RnB artist hair styles are designed in their own unique way, e.g. Alicia Keys plats is unique to her and everyone recognised her with it. Their makeup is very bold and attractive to get their target audience attention on them, some female RnbB artist also wear red lip stick to also get their audience's attention. RnB female artist also intend to wear a lot of jewelleries compared to the male’s RnB singers.
